Join Bronson Lubresky, Urban Extension Agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES), and Charles Yeager, Jefferson County Greenways Land and Water Conservation Director, for an invasive species walk & talk. Learn more about identifying and controlling/eliminating invasive species and Jefferson County Greenways land management plan for invasive species. You can also sign up for an optional volunteer workday to help pull up invasive species from a designated area in the park. This program is part of ACES "Year of Invasive Plants" project. You can learn more about the project and how to be part of it here.
Jefferson County Greenways is excited to present The Elements Learning Series. Many ancient cultures used four classical elements - earth, water, fire, air - to explain the universe. During 2026, we will use these classical elements as inspiration to discuss environmental issues affecting our local ecosystems. With community partners contributing their expertise, these programs offer a chance to learn how earth, water, fire, and air still contribute to the world around us.
Accessibility: The walk & talk portion of the program involves approximately 1 mile of walking and standing on a flat dirt trail with small rocks and roots. Indoor accessible restrooms are available at the beginning and end of the walk. The workday portion involves manual labor, such as pulling plants from the ground by hand or with a weed wrench.
Disclaimer: This program has limited space available. Please register to attend.
