Communication experts advise us to repeat what we hear others say to us. Let's practice that by imagining what creeks, tadpoles, mockingbirds, lichen, and stones are telling us, each other, the world. Poet Tina Mozelle Braziel will provide examples and prompts to enable you to imagine and poetically describe these conversations in individual poems and in a collaborative group poem. While paper and pencils will be provided, feel free to bring your favorite writing utensils.
Tina Mozelle Braziel co-wrote Glass Cabin with her husband, writer James Braziel. She has been awarded the Philip Levine Prize for Poetry for her first book Known by Salt, an artist residency at Hot Springs National Park, a literary fellowship from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, and the first Eco-Poetry Fellowship from Magic City Poetry Festival. As an Alabama Poetry Delegate, Tina initiated the Eco-Poetry Film fellowship that supports local poets as they create eco-poetry films as part of Southern Exposure. Tina is a teaching writer for the Writing Our Stories project, a program for juvenile offenders created by the Alabama Writers’ Forum. Learn more at tinamozellebraziel.com
Accessibility: This program will involve easy walking around the falls area. You can take the stairs down to the falls or stay at the picnic table area near the paved road. Portable restrooms are available.
