Native Plant Sale in Spring and Fall

The popular Jefferson County Greenways Native Plant Sale in Birmingham, Alabama is held every Saturday in April (Spring Sale) and October (Fall Sale), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ruffner Mountain Greenhouse. 

Jefferson County Greenways members and the public can shop plants propagated from our greenspaces in Jefferson County — contributing to their adaptability to the local climate. Every plant purchased and planted helps support the local ecosystem and our protected greenspaces — Red Mountain Park, Ruffner Mountain, and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve.

Whether you’re looking to enhance your yard’s habitat, attract pollinators, or simply enjoy the beauty of Alabama’s native flora, you’ll find a wide variety of hardy, beautiful native plants suited to Alabama’s climate.

Volunteer and Support Local Conservation

We need volunteers to help make the plant sale a success! Shifts are available each Saturday in April and October. No experience is needed. Volunteer perks include morning coffee to start your shift, free lunch and cold drinks, one free native plant per shift. Native Plant Inventory

Our native plant inventory includes trees, shrubs, grasses, and perennials propagated from our greenspaces. Plant availability varies by season and reflects what is thriving in our local greenspaces. Some plant species may not be available for all dates throughout the plant sale, quantities may be limited. What should I bring to the plant sale?

If possible, please bring a box or other container to place your plants in. Otherwise, we have a limited number of boxes available to the public while supplies last. You may also want to bring a small wagon or cart to move your plants.
