Join Jefferson County Greenways naturalists and AL Cooperative Extension System herpetologist, Dylan Taylor, on a fascinating night hike focusing on frogs. We will enjoy an approximately 2-mile round-trip hike to the Wetlands, where Dylan will teach us how to identify frog calls, and we will search for as many species of this amazing amphibian as we can.
Along the way, we will search for other nocturnal creatures, such as owls, millipedes, and moths. Please bring water, sturdy close-toed footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, and headlamps/flashlights. Red flashlights are preferred. UV lights are also encouraged so we can look for phosphorescent creatures. Bug spray is recommended.
Please park at the Eastern Trailhead, but do not block the gate. Additional parking is available in the gravel lot across the street.
Accessibility: This 2 mile out-and-back hike is on flat trails made of gravel and loose soil surfaces with little to no elevation change. There is a Pavilion at the midway point where we can rest. There are no bathroom facilities at this program.
Disclaimer: This program has limited space available. Please register to attend.
If you register but are unable to attend, please email programs@jeffcogreenways.org so we can open the spot for someone else.
