Join us for a morning of light electronic ambient music inspired by the sounds of Ruffner Mountain, presented by local sound artist, Earthen Herman, and Seasick Records.
We will meet at the Eastern Trailhead, 1942 Ruffner Road, at 9:30 AM, and then walk a 15-minute flat distance to the performance site. The performance will last around 30 minutes.
You are welcome to bring a lawn chair or stand during the performance. Please bring water with you. The performance will be filmed.
Below is a statement from the artist, Earthen Herman:
"On June 15th, 2025, I’ll perform a site-specific ambient sound piece at the base of the crusher at Ruffner Mountain in Birmingham, Alabama. This trail, carved into a former iron ore mining site, is a place where natural silence overlays industrial memory—where the forest slowly works to reclaim the terrain.
The performance is meant to resonate with the space itself. Rather than offering a narrative, the piece allows space for listening—to the Ruffner, and to the world of sound it creates. I’m using an analog synthesizer for its physicality and imperfection—its tendency to drift, to breathe, to respond to the environment. It hums, pulses, and bends with time, much like the landscape itself."
