Jefferson County Greenways is excited to present The Elements Learning Series. Many ancient cultures used four classical elements - earth, water, fire, air - to explain the universe. During 2026, we will use these classical elements as inspiration to discuss environmental issues affecting our local ecosystems. With community partners contributing their expertise, these programs are a chance to learn how earth, water, fire, and air still contribute to the world around us.
The first program in this series focuses on prescribed fire. Prescribed fire is a land management strategy replicating the natural burn cycles in our forests. Join Alabama Cooperative Extension System Field Representative, Dylan Taylor, and Jefferson County Greenways Land and Water Conservation Director, Charles Yeager, to learn what prescribed burns are, why they are important for land management, and more about Jefferson County Greenways’ prescribed burn plan.
Accessibility: This program is wheelchair accessible. Indoor restrooms will be available.
Disclaimer: This program has limited space available. Please register to attend.
If you register but are unable to attend, please email programs@jeffcogreenways.org so we can open the spot for someone else.
