Do you want to spend more time outside this year, but need more confidence being outdoors? Join our Naturalists at Ruffner Mountain where we will review the fundamentals of enjoying our greenspaces. This program is designed for individuals who want to spend more time outdoors but don't know where to start. This entry level program will cover the basics of map reading and navigation, appropriate attire for hiking, poison ivy ID and wildlife safety, and how to make the most out of your time in nature. Ruffner Mountain 101 will include a short guided hike and a live animal encounter! This program is perfect for our community members who are new to outdoor recreation and it is appropriate for all ages.
,Note: The animal encounter will include live nonvenomous snakes. For the hike, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle.
Accessibility: The Ruffner Mountain Nature Center and Pavilion are ADA-accessible and have bathrooms and water fountains. The hike will cover approximately 1 mile on mildly uneven trails that feature roots and rocks. Slight elevation changes will occur over the course of the hike. Trails are not fully accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.
Disclaimer: This program has limited space available. Please register to attend. If you register but are unable to attend, please email programs@jeffcogreenways.org so we can open the spot for someone else.
