Jefferson County Greenways is a dynamic public-private partnership dedicated to preserving three of the region's treasured natural areas: Red Mountain Park, Ruffner Mountain, and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve. Our mission is to preserve and care for these greenspaces as sanctuaries for our neighbors, native plants, and animals.

These greenspaces exist today thanks to the tireless efforts and unwavering support of our local community members. Today, we continue that legacy by managing and maintaining these vital areas through a strong partnership between the Jefferson County Greenways Commission and the Jefferson County Greenways Foundation.

Join a panel of Jefferson County Greenway's staff, the Chairman of the Commission, and the author of "Back to Nature: A History of Birmingham's Ruffner Mountain" to learn more about the history of Red Mountain Park, Ruffner Mountain, and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve and how Jefferson County Greenways was formed.

MAPS Bird Banding Program

Join us and Alabama Audubon to see birds up close as scientists document Ruffner Mountain’s summer bird community through bird banding—the capture, measurement, and release of wild birds.

Meadow Restoration and Invasive Plants Walk & Talk

Learn about the Red Mountain Park meadow restoration project from our Land and Water Conservation Director, Charles Yeager. Alabama Cooperative Extension Agents, Lynn Dickinson and Dylan Taylor will lead a naturalist walk to discuss plant communities and the threats invasive species pose.
