Nature for All

Nature is for Everyone

At Jefferson County Greenways, we believe that access to nature should never be limited by economic circumstances. Red Mountain Park, Ruffner Mountain, and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve are places for recreation, restoration, learning, and connection. The Nature for All program was created to provide memberships at no cost to individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford a supporting membership, ensuring that finances are not a barrier to experiencing all these greenspaces have to offer.

Sustaining Through Community Support

Jefferson County Greenways is sustained through a public-private partnership, working together toward the long-term care of the county’s largest greenspaces. The Jefferson County Greenways Commission is a publicly funded state agency responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of these special places. Memberships, including both supporting memberships and those under the Nature for All program, are administered by the Jefferson County Greenways Foundation, a nonprofit organization supported by memberships, donations, and grants.

Membership funds programs and initiatives that go beyond basic operations, including:

  • Environmental education, field trips, and programming
  • Conservation, research, and habitat protection
  • Recreation and community engagement opportunities

While public investment supports park operations through the Commission, the Foundation relies on community support to provide membership benefits and to offer free memberships to those who would not otherwise be able to afford them.

The Nature for All program reflects Jefferson County Greenways’ commitment to equity, stewardship, and community care. Whether you participate through a supporting membership or the Nature for All program, together, we ensure that Jefferson County’s large acreage greenspaces remain welcoming, well cared for, and publicly accessible—today and for generations to come.
