Do you think salamanders are super spectacular? We do too! Join our naturalists on a hike to the Big Crusher, where we will get up close and personal with stunning, splendid salamanders in their natural habitat. Learn to identify our amazing amphibian acquaintances while exploring less-traveled parts of Ruffner Mountain.
Accessibility: This program will involve an approximately 1.5-mile walk on a flat dirt and grass trail with some loose soil and gravel. No restrooms or seating are available.
You may get your hands in the mud and cold water in February weather. Bring a water bottle or thermos, wear sturdy waterproof shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Gloves and rubber boots are recommended.
The price of this program helps support Jefferson County Greenways.
This program has limited space available. Please register to attend.
If you register but are unable to attend, please email programs@jeffcogreenways.org so we can open the spot for someone else.
This program will meet at the Eastern Trailhead (1942 Ruffner Road), not the Nature Center entrance. Parking is very limited, so please carpool if possible.
