Red Mountain Park To See Improvements With Added Amenities

Jefferson County Greenways is thrilled to announce a significant upgrade coming to Red Mountain Park, which will enhance the visitor experience and benefit the community. Thanks to funding from our partnership with Innovate Alabama Network, the park will be adding universally accessible restrooms at the Frankfurt Drive entrance. These amenities are designed to enhance safety and enjoyment for visitors by providing on-site restrooms that are well lit and accessible to individuals with disabilities.

The spacious 1,800-square-foot covered pavilion will be conveniently located near the trailhead and future parking lot, welcoming park visitors as they arrive.

Within the pavilion, visitors will find a 460-square-foot enclosed structure housing multiple universally accessible, single-occupant restrooms. Two of the restrooms will be designed for caregiver-assisted use, incorporating durable materials and following inclusive, person-first design principles.

The pavilion extension will be an open-air, multi-use community gathering space where visitors can take a rest, families can gather, and school groups can receive educational presentations from park staff and our partners. Additionally, water fountains and bottle-filling stations will be provided.

Construction is scheduled to begin this fall, with completion expected by the end of 2025. Once construction begins, we recommend using the Venice Road park entrance. There will be a detour through Remy’s Dog Park for those wishing to continue to use the Frankfurt Drive entrance.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Innovate Alabama, whose investment made this project possible. Their support enables Jefferson County Greenways to continue improving Red Mountain Park, cementing it as a welcoming outdoor recreation destination for our community. We're excited about the enhanced experience these new amenities will offer park visitors.
